Adelaide has a rich poker history and was responsible for introducing Texas Hold’em to Australia’s shores more than twenty years ago. Adelaide is still regarded by many as the ‘Traditional Home of Australian Poker’.
More recently, in 2009 with another Australian first, Adelaide Casino's Poker Zone introduced the PokerStars.net Australian New Zealand Poker Tour (ANZPT). Adelaide is now the first stop on the tournament calendar for this exciting event, which due to its success now encompasses almost all Australian states, and Queenstown in New Zealand. 2010's ANZPT winner Rennie Carnevale played a strong field to take home the first ANZPT Main Event trophy of the series, and AU$165,900, with eight other place-getters sharing the prize pool with him.
Playing in the Poker Zone
The Poker Zone is located on the first floor next to the Grandstand Bar.
The Poker Zone offers two ways of playing poker – tournaments and ‘cash’ or ‘ring’ games. The basic difference between the two is that players may get up and leave a cash game anytime they like but will need to play a tournament out to a conclusion to win a prize.
Tournaments
Players may join a game by registering for a scheduled tournament at the ACTION station located on the ground floor whereas Sit and Go tournament registrations are via the Poker Zone.
Cash Games
Cash games are played with chips that are redeemable for cash. Players may put their name down for a cash game at the Poker Zone from thirty minutes prior to opening. Players may join in straight away or be sent an SMS if they are on a waiting list.
